The Maasai Mara in Kenya is certainly a bucket-list safari destination, renowned for its iconic African landscapes and as the stage for the Great Migration.

Annually within The Mara Triangle, about 2 million ungulates (zebras, wildebeest and other antelope) and great numbers of predators merge on expansive plains and cross torrential rivers. The Maasai Mara is one of the best places to experience this, with fantastic options ranging from hot air balloon rides to horseback safaris, walking safaris and game drives.

The Mara is also home to many unique species and even the Big 5. The reserve is home to around 90 mammal species and 500 bird species, 47 of which are birds of prey. The Mara is also one of the established homelands of the Maasai people, who have maintained a semi-nomadic way of life for generations.

Dotted across wide plains, in amongst rolling hills are a range of exclusive lodges and camps, each of which offers a touch of luxury that completes an iconic East African Safari.

The Dry Season

July to October
This is the dry season and it is when The Great Migration occurs.

The Green Season

November to December
This is the shorter rainy season, it is a great time to spot birdlife and baby animals.

January to March
During this time the Masai Mara is less crowded and as the rains transform the landscape into lush vistas, an abundance of birdlife emerges. This time of year is also often referred to as lion season, as it is both when many baby animals are born, but also when there is dramatic predator activity.

March to June
The long rains occur during this time and some lodges and camps may close during, so make sure to get in touch with us first if you would like to explore the Mara during these months.
