Damaralands vast open spaces offer a wealth of photo-worthy attractions – from alien-like desert views to dramatic rock formations and swarths of wilderness with not another person in sight. One of the region’s greatest draws is its desert-adapted elephants and the ancient rock paintings hidden in Namibia’s highest mountain, Brandenburg.
Alongside desert elephants, Damaraland is also home to desert-adapted rhinos, where you can find a globally significant population of black rhinos free-roaming its stark landscape. For those with a real interest in conservation, you may wish to spend a day on the road with the conservation teams tracking and documenting the rhino numbers throughout the region – a truly fascinating experience.
In addition to its natural wonders, Damaraland has deep-rooted ties to human history. Visitors can seek out ancient petroglyphs and rock carvings, or meet the wonderfully unique indigenous inhabitants who have made a seemingly inhospitable part of the world their home.
