The Safari Edit: A Family Grounded in Africa

Far from a distant call centre, The Safari Edit is a brand built on a deep, personal connection to Africa. Finlay and Wendy, alongside their three young children, now call South Africa home, providing them with a unique, on-the-ground perspective. This means your customer support is not just a service—it’s an authentic conversation with genuine experts who are a stone’s throw away from the destinations they book.

Their passion for the continent goes well beyond their professional lives. They have journeyed extensively throughout Southern and Eastern Africa, fortunate enough to personally experience many of the adventures they now curate for you. Beyond the classic routes, their personal travels have taken them to West Africa (including The Gambia and Ghana) and North Africa (Morocco and Egypt). They can offer first hand insight into everything from gliding over the Maasai Mara in a hot air balloon and viewing Victoria Falls from above, to the critical distinction of having witnessed the Great Migration from both the Kenyan and Tanzanian sides, trekking with mountain gorillas, and participating in walking safaris in Tanzania.

Raising their own children on these adventures since birth has given them a unique understanding of how immersive a safari can be for even the youngest travellers. The Safari Edit is a testament to the Hunter family’s desire to share their love affair with Africa—the people, the wildlife, the landscapes, the sights, and the sounds. They are here to craft a bespoke luxury holiday you will never forget, one that will leave you longing to return to the continent they are proud to call home.

Already well established in the travel industry with their award-winning company, Hunter Chalets, Finlay and Wendy understand exactly how to deliver the very best travel experiences to the most discerning guests.

“All I wanted to do was get back

Alex McFarland

Product/Sales Manager & Senior Itinerary Designer

A backpacking trip around Europe was the spark needed to ignite Alex’s love for travel almost 12 years ago. Since then, Alex’s intrepid travels have taken him to some of the world’s most breathtaking wilderness locations, as far west as Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and as far east as Thailand and Malaysian Borneo, yet nothing has captured his love
for adventure and wildlife quite like Africa has.

Alex has been curating unforgettable experiences throughout sub-saharan Africa since 2016, having travelled extensively throughout the continent, experiencing first hand some of Africa’s top
luxury camps and hotels.

At Great Plains Selinda Camp in Botswana

Some of Alex’s most memorable experiences include summiting ‘Big Daddy’, one of the world’s largest sand dunes, Sossusvlei, Namibia. Photographing wildlife while soaring high above Botswana’s breathtaking Okavango Delta in a helicopter.
Whale watching in Mozambique’s idyllic Bazaruto Archipelago. He’s even had lunch with Nelson Mandela’s ex-prison guard!

If a once-in-a-lifetime African adventure is on your bucket list, give Alex a call to explore
 the possibilities!

Laura May

Marketing Manager

Laura has been a travel writer for over 20 years and is a specialist in travel marketing. She started out as a features writer for off-roading magazines and found herself returning to Africa time and again, from navigating Morocco’s cliff-side tracks in the Atlas Mountains to driving across the Sahara (twice).

Wild camping in the desert
Making the most of Mombasa’s beach life

She has experienced the broad spectrum of safari holidays, from glamping in Tsavo East to wild camping in the Maasai Mara with a pop-up dunny! Stand-out memories include a face-to-face encounter with a baboon and its baby, to clubbing with the Maasai in a tent with huge speakers pounding out Daddy Yankee’s Gasolina (you’ll know it when you hear it). Laura has tested out Mombasa’s beaches and is well-known as a Mauritius expert in the travel industry.

Whether it is your first safari or you have been each year for the last twenty, The Safari Edit handles every detail of your safari, from planning to your return, and helps arrange your next adventure. Because we know as well as anyone that Africa and her wonders have a way of leaving those who visit utterly enthralled.
