The Tanzanian Coast and its star island, Zanzibar, offer an authentic and relaxed beach escape that pairs perfectly with an iconic East African safari.

Zanzibar boasts pristine beaches, a rich marine world and a vibrant cultural history. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean offer the chance to explore an extraordinary underwater world or a simple, but thoughtful relaxing retreat a world away from the hustle and bustle. What adds to the natural beauty of this region is a selection of extremely authentic and charming beach lodges and boutique hotels.

Due to old world spice routes, the Tanzanian Coast and Zanzibar are influenced and built according to a blend of Arabic, African and European cultures. The winding streets of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the excellent architecture and restaurants of Dar es Salaam, a place written about by so many authors including Roald Dahl, are a testament to this.

Zanzibar’s variety of accommodations cater perfectly to a range of guests, with quaint romantic options for Honeymooners or couples, and luxurious multi-room villas ideal for families and groups of friends.

The Dry Season

June to October
Much like the rest of Tanzania, Zanzibar is best visited during the dry season, when beautiful sunny days are the norm.

December to February
The rains tend to ease off in the latter part of December and the long sunny days return all the way up until March. This is also a fantastic time for snorkelling and scuba diving with waters at their clearest.

The Green Season

November
November marks the beginning of the short rainy season, though rains are usually brief, sharp showers, interspersed with sunny patches.

March to May
The middle of March is typically when the long rains begin to fall and April and May are characterised by frequent downpours.
