From sprawling beaches to Big 5 reserves, a malaria-free safari experience, and easy access to Cape Town, the Eastern Cape province in South Africa is one of the country’s most beautiful regions.

Private game reserves in the Eastern Cape present a range of luxury safari escapes, from lavish stone-built lodges to secluded tented camps, all nestled within nature’s unspoiled beauty. Shamwari Reserve features lush vistas of Albany thicket and successful leopard programs. Addo Elephant Park, where African elephants roam amidst breathtaking landscapes, is complemented by other extraordinary reserves like Lalibela, Pumba, Kwandwe and Kariega.

The coastline of the Eastern Cape is a well-kept secret. The Wild Coast, stretching below East London to the border of KwaZulu-Natal, boasts rugged cliffs, uncrowded beaches, and lush hills. The rest of the coastline, including small towns like Port Alfred and Kleinemond, is equally excellent. Jeffery’s Bay offers some of the best surfing in the world.

The Dry Season

The Green Season

May to October
In May, temperatures start to drop and as winter kicks in, the rains arrive. The rains start to subside in September as temperatures start to rise.
