Mahale Mountains National Park in Tanzania sits on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and is a great place to seek out chimpanzees.

Mahale is settled on the western reaches of Tanzania’s border and offers a laid-back, unique escape with the chance to explore the hidden wonders of Lake Tanganyika, a breathtaking freshwater lake with hundreds of fish species, including hundreds of endemic cichlids.

In addition to the lake, visitors have the chance to explore its vibrant and diverse ecosystems – home to chimpanzees and plenty of birds. Along with chimp tracking, visitors can also track other unique primates, including blue monkeys, different species of galago, red and pied colobus, as well as the ever-curious vervet monkeys.

The park is best combined with a trip to the nearby Katavi National Park.
