Trekking to visit the mountain gorillas in Rwanda

Wendy & Finlay Hunter

Founders

Founders Finlay and Wendy Hunter created The Safari Edit as a way to share their absolute passion and love for Africa; using their unique first-hand knowledge of the safari industry to create unrivalled holidays for their clients.

Already well established in the travel industry with their award-winning company, Hunter Chalets, Finlay and Wendy understand exactly how to deliver the very best travel experiences to the most discerning guests. Prior to establishing their luxury chalet company, the couple spent many years living and working in several African countries, managing some of the continent’s most prestigious safari lodges and it is this hands-on expertise gained in France and Africa that allows them to curate the best itineraries for you.

Managing three of the continent’s most luxurious lodges has given the couple a wealth of knowledge and experience in the luxury safari sector and the opportunity to enchant guests with bucket-list wildlife encounters, including trekking with the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, watching the great migration in Tanzania and walking in the leopard dense ebony forests of Zambia.

Aside from working in the safari industry, they have travelled extensively throughout Africa both as a couple and with their three young children, visiting numerous destinations across southern and eastern Africa. They have been fortunate to enjoy many of the experiences that they now offer to their clients and can communicate first-hand knowledge about what it is like to travel by hot air balloon over the Maasai Mara, view Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria Falls) from above, trek with mountain gorillas, savour the Winelands of South Africa or explore the savannah on horseback. Far from hindering their African adventures, having children has only made them realise how immersive a safari holiday is for even the youngest travellers, and their children have been brought along on these adventures since the years they were born.

The Safari Edit is built on this deep love affair with the continent and the Hunter’s desire to share with you everything that has captured their hearts. The people, the wildlife, the landscapes, the sights and the sounds – they are here to create a bespoke luxury holiday that you will never forget and that will leave you longing to return year after year.

Alex McFarland

Product/Sales Manager & Senior Itinerary Designer

A backpacking trip around Europe was the spark needed to ignite Alex’s love for travel almost 12 years ago. Since then, Alex’s intrepid travels have taken him to some of the world’s most breathtaking wilderness locations, as far west as Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and as far east as Thailand and Malaysian Borneo, yet nothing has captured his love
for adventure and wildlife quite like Africa has.

Alex has been curating unforgettable experiences throughout sub-saharan Africa since 2016, having travelled extensively throughout the continent, experiencing first hand some of Africa’s top
luxury camps and hotels.

At Great Plains Selinda Camp in Botswana

Some of Alex’s most memorable experiences include summiting ‘Big Daddy’, one of the world’s largest sand dunes, Sossusvlei, Namibia. Photographing wildlife while soaring high above Botswana’s breathtaking Okavango Delta in a helicopter.
Whale watching in Mozambique’s idyllic Bazaruto Archipelago. He’s even had lunch with Nelson Mandela’s ex-prison guard!

If a once-in-a-lifetime African adventure is on your bucket list, give Alex a call to explore
 the possibilities!

Courtney Drysdale

Marketing & Guest Relations

Having lived and worked across Southern Africa, from remote sections of Zimbabwe without electricity to the family farm in Botswana and various provinces in South Africa; Courtney’s deep connection to and love for Africa is reflected in her hands-on local knowledge and dedication to creating the very best luxury safaris at The Safari Edit. Born and raised in Africa, she has explored diverse landscapes, from private reserves in Kruger to the Okavango Delta. Her travels have taken her to nearly every corner of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, as well as various Indian Ocean islands, including Zanzibar and the Seychelles.

Her journeys between these destinations have been as diverse as the places themselves – ranging from helicopter rides over the Okavango Delta to hopping across the Zambezi on an ancient diesel ferry. Her upbringing, with parents involved in National Parks and Wildlife, which has given her a solid knowledge of Southern Africa’s flora and fauna.

Exploring the Karoo

She has trekked on horseback along the original cattle route from Maun to Pandamatenga (Botswana), kayaked through the Okavango Delta, and gone on more game drives and bush walks than she can count – both day and night – in diverse wilderness areas.

Beyond Southern Africa, Courtney’s extensive international travels include living and working in the UK and exploring much of Europe and Asia. As she moves around, one of her favourite ways to explore is by finding new trail routes to run. Her role at The Safari Edit enables her to share this wonder for Africa and help clients discover hidden gems or experience iconic spots in new and extraordinary ways.

Whether it is your first safari or you have been each year for the last twenty, The Safari Edit will take care of your every need – from the initial phone call to the return home… and then help you plan the next adventure. Because, we know as well as anyone, that Africa and her wonders have a way of leaving those who visit utterly enthralled.
