Where to go on honeymoon in 2026-2027

Whether you’re looking to celebrate your new life together or dreaming about a break from any wedding admin, planning your honeymoon should be fun. We’ve made an easy to choose from list of all the best safari and beach honeymoon destinations to help you get inspired and sort out a honeymoon that will set the perfect tone for you and your partner’s life together. Here are the top places to consider for your honeymoon…

An empty bedroom opens onto a deck overlooking the bush, a honeymoon safari stay, Mauritius. A restaurant deck is set with multiple tables for dinner, a honeymoon safari moment, Mauritius. An empty veranda looks out over the view, a honeymoon safari stay, Mauritius.

Mauritius

Mauritius is a honeymooner’s dream, with its powdery white-sand beaches, crystal-clear lagoons, and world-class luxury resorts. Couples can enjoy private beachfront villas, rejuvenating spa treatments, and romantic sunset cruises. For the adventurous, there’s coral reef diving, snorkelling, and hiking through lush trails like the Black River Gorges. The best part? It’s full of all-inclusive stays, so you can have all the details taken care of (which can be just the ticket after planning a wedding!)

A couple at a dining table silhouetted against a golden sunset over the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Botswana, a stay at a luxury safari lodge. A guide poles a traditional mokoro boat through calm Okavango Delta channels near Dukes Camp, Botswana. Lions rest by the water's edge in the Okavango Delta, a honeymoon safari, Botswana.

Botswana

Beloved by royalty and conservationists, Botswana is one of the world’s greatest wilderness areas. With nearly half of the country under some form of environmental management, locations like Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta offer exceptional game viewing. Botswana also does exclusivity very well, so that on your honeymoon you get to feel like you have the whole place to yourself. We personally love all the unique activities Botswana offers, including scenic helicopter flights with a champagne breakfast and touring the Delta on a mokoro (a dugout canoe).

A group enjoys sundowner drinks among red desert dunes at Kwessi Dunes, a honeymoon safari stay, Namibia. An open-sided thatched suite with a large bed and lounge area looks out over the desert at Kwessi Dunes, Namibia. Dead camel-thorn trees stand against orange dunes at Deadvlei, near Kwessi Dunes, Namibia, a favourite stop on luxury safari holidays.

Namibia

Namibia’s starkly beautiful landscapes create a uniquely romantic setting. Explore the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park, and the haunting Skeleton Coast. Luxury desert lodges provide intimate, starlit dinners and sleep-outs under a blanket of stars sure to create memories that will last a lifetime.

A dense herd of wildebeest packed tightly together during the Great Migration, Africa. An aerial view of the lodge at Singita Kilima, a honeymoon safari stay, Tanzania. A couple on a game drive spot wildlife on the plains at Singita Grumeti, a honeymoon safari, Tanzania.

Tanzania

You don’t get more iconic than an Easter African safari. Tanzania perfectly combines the thrill of the Serengeti’s Great Migration with the tranquillity of private luxury lodges. Start off your married life by witnessing the Great Migration or be captivated by dramatic landscapes like the Ngorongoro Crater, or the lakes and topography of the Great Rift Valley.

Zanzibar

Just off Tanzania’s coast, Zanzibar exudes easy romance with a relaxed and unhurried feel and expansive white sandy beaches. It’s historic Stone Town and pristine beaches offer a blend of cultures and old world feel. With plenty of private villas, excellent dining and so much underwater life – Zanzibar is the perfect island escape or combination of a beach with your safari.

The white, black-shuttered facade of Cape Cadogan boutique hotel, a honeymoon safari stay, Cape Town, South Africa. Guests on a game drive vehicle spot wildlife at Lion Sands, a honeymoon safari stay, South Africa. A communal pool area at Cape Cadogan, a honeymoon safari stay, Cape Town, South Africa.

South Africa

South Africa’s diversity makes it an ideal honeymoon destination. World-class safari destinations like the Kruger and the Eastern Cape can be paired with Cape Dutch villas in the Winelands and one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Cape Town.

Planning Your 2026-2027 Luxury Honeymoon: FAQs

We're planning our honeymoon for 2026-2027. How far in advance do we really need to book for the best options?
For a luxury honeymoon, especially if travelling during peak season (like UK summer holidays or over Christmas/New Year) or if you have your heart set on specific popular lodges or unique experiences, we strongly recommend starting the planning process 9 to 18 months before your travel dates. This ensures the best availability for preferred accommodation (particularly special honeymoon suites), top guides, specific room types, and optimal flight schedules from the UK. We can still help plan for 2025 dates. Just get in contact to discuss.
What's a realistic budget guideline for the kind of luxury honeymoons you feature?
Luxury honeymoons vary greatly depending on factors like destination exclusivity, duration, the standard of accommodation, seasonality, and included private arrangements. As a general starting point for planning, a high-quality 10-14 day luxury safari combined with a beach element often begins around £7,000 - £10,000 per person, but can certainly extend higher based on your choices. The best way forward is to share your approximate budget with us, and our specialists can craft tailored suggestions that align with your expectations and offer the best value.
The destinations sound amazing! How do we choose the one that's truly right for us as a couple?
That's where our personalised approach comes in! Consider what excites you both most: Is it witnessing specific wildlife events like the Great Migration? Relaxing completely on a pristine beach after your adventures? Thrilling activities like walking safaris or canoeing? Experiencing dramatic landscapes? Or perhaps a focus on exceptional food and wine? Think too about the time of year you plan to travel. During our initial chat, we'll explore these preferences to help match you with the destinations and experiences that will make your honeymoon unforgettable.
Is it easy to combine a safari with a relaxing beach stay for a honeymoon? Which combinations work best?
Combining safari adventure with beach relaxation is a very popular and highly recommended honeymoon style! Logistically, common pairings work very well: East African safaris (Kenya/Tanzania) connect easily with Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia Island, or even the Seychelles. Southern African safaris (South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe) often pair beautifully with Mauritius, Mozambique's islands, or the Seychelles (though flights might be slightly longer). We can advise on the best flow depending on your chosen safari region and beach preferences.
Can a safari feel truly private and romantic enough for a honeymoon?
Absolutely! A well-planned luxury safari can be incredibly romantic. Many top lodges specialise in creating intimate experiences for couples. Think private plunge pools overlooking waterholes, candlelit dinners under the stars miles from anyone else, secluded suites, surprise sundowner spots chosen just for you, and discreet, attentive service. We work closely with properties renowned for providing that extra touch of privacy and romance perfect for honeymooners.
If we're first-time safari-goers, are the destinations you suggest suitable?
Yes, many destinations frequently recommended for honeymoons – like Kenya's Masai Mara, Tanzania's Serengeti, Botswana's Okavango Delta, or South Africa's Sabi Sands – offer fantastic wildlife viewing and a superb range of luxury lodges that cater excellently to first-time visitors, ensuring you feel comfortable and well-guided. We always tailor the intensity and pace to suit your experience level.
How exactly does The Safari Edit help plan a bespoke honeymoon?
Our process is collaborative and entirely personalised. We start with a conversation to understand your dreams, interests, style, and budget. Then, using our deep, first-hand knowledge of Africa, we design a unique itinerary proposal just for you. Once perfected, we handle all the arrangements – booking the best flights from the UK, securing accommodation, organising transfers and activities, providing comprehensive pre-departure information, and offering 24/7 support while you travel. We focus on the details, so you can focus on each other.
How crucial is travel insurance for our honeymoon?
It's essential. A luxury honeymoon is a significant investment, and comprehensive travel insurance provides vital protection. Ensure your policy includes adequate cover for cancellation, curtailment, medical emergencies (including repatriation/evacuation), and loss or damage to personal belongings (including items like wedding rings or camera gear).
What should we consider regarding health (vaccinations) and visas when travelling from the UK or US?
Health and entry requirements are specific to the countries visited. We strongly advise consulting your GP, healthcare provider or a dedicated travel clinic ideally 6-8 weeks before departure for personalised advice on recommended vaccinations (like Yellow Fever, if required for entry/transit) and malaria prevention strategies. Additionally, check current visa regulations for UK or US passport holders for every country on your itinerary – we can provide pointers during planning.
