A fantastic alternative destination to go gorilla trekking, set in one of the world’s oldest forests.

Settled along the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the only places where travellers can witness endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. About half the world’s population of these magnificent creatures call this ancient, mist-coated forest their home, along with hundreds of different ferns, trees, birds and butterflies.

There are endless ways to explore the park and its surrounding areas, from guided hikes, to cycling tours, not to mention excellent community tours and village walks. The park is also a great access point to other parts of the Uganda highlands and lakes.

In addition to its natural wonders, Bwindi also boasts a range of lodges, to serve as the perfect point to recoup after an exciting day out trekking. A visit to Bwindi is undeniably a great addition to a classic East African safari to Kenya or Tanzania.

The Dry Season

June to August
This is the longer dry season in the region, this is a great time to go gorilla trekking as the forest trails are far more accessible. This is also a great time to pair your trip with a safari to East Africa.

December to February
This is the shorter dry season in Uganda. There can be some light showers in January and February. However, this is still a great time to go gorilla trekking, just make sure to pack an extra waterproof layer.

The Green Season

March to May
These are the heaviest rains and not optimal for gorilla trekking as much of the trails in the forest can become muddy and even impassable.

September to November
This is the shorter rainy season, given the general high levels of rainfall in this region we recommend that you check with us before you book during these months as the rains can make gorilla trekking difficult.
