Royal Malewane

Singita Boulders Lodge

Singita’s portfolio of luxury lodges is at an exceptional standard. In South Africa, Lebombo is suspended above the N’wanetsi River like an eagle’s nest. Sweni Lodge is an intimate retreat offering a personalised escape in the wilderness. Both lodges are based in the Kruger National Park. 

For families, Singita Boulders Lodge is an excellent choice. It has just 12 suites overlooking the boulder-strewn banks of the Sand River in Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Each one is open to the elements, giving you unfettered access to the outdoors, whether it’s soaking up the view of the watering hole from your deck or cooling off in your private plunge pool.  

Children over the age of 10 are welcome at the lodge. The Mini Rangers Course is a dedicated programme where young explorers can learn animal tracking, bush survival skills, astronomy and birdwatching. They can also participate in bush walks and game drives at the discretion of the Field Guides.

Londolozi Private Granite Suites

Londolozi has five luxury camps on the banks of the Sand River in the heart of Sabi Sands Game Reserve. This family-run portfolio is a social enterprise committed to conservation and community involvement in the African bush. It’s a hotspot for elephants and buffalo, but its biggest star is the leopard, with sightings a frequent possibility.  

Each lodge echoes South Africa’s landscapes with natural stone and wood paired with modern luxuries like heated swimming pools. The most opulent offerings are the Private Granite Suites, which have a front-row view of passing elephants from outdoor bathtubs. 

High up in the Leadwood tree canopy, Tree Camp is another ultra-luxurious retreat inspired by the leopards that visit this area. It has an ample terrace to lounge on and watch elephants in the river below.

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge

The award-winning Lion Sands Game Reserve has a collection of four luxury lodges and two residences within Sabi Sands and Kruger National Park. It’s the only reserve with access to the perennial Sabi River, making it a hotspot for wallowing wildlife.  

Each lodge is inspired by nature. The largest of the four is the River Lodge, which has walkways linking to a spa, fitness centre and pool. Tswalu Kalahari Loapi Tented Camp

Set within South Africa’s largest privately-owned game reserve, Tswalu Kalahari is a wilderness escape with three luxury accommodation options: the Motse, Tarkuni, and Loapi. Together, these properties accommodate up to 40 guests, offering the lowest guest-to-reserve ratio in the country.

Tswalu is foremost a conservation project dedicated to restoring the Kalahari’s natural habitat. During your stay, you have guaranteed access to a private vehicle and you can explore the reserve through nature walks, horse riding and meerkat encounters.

&Beyond Phinda Vlei Lodge

&Beyond Phinda Vlei Lodge is a secluded hideaway in the Phinda Private Game Reserve. Set on the edge of a rare sand forest, it overlooks a wetland meadow frequently visited by wildlife. 

Spot the likes of antelopes and elephants from the comfort of the lodge’s six spacious suites, complete with an en-suite bathroom, a private lap pool and refreshing outdoor showers. Each suite has a game viewing deck as well as Swarovski binoculars for a closer look at birds and animals. 

Spend your days spotting the Big Five on game drives. The reserve is well known for its large cheetah and black rhino populations. You can also join conservation experiences, like pangolin tagging or visiting local Zulu villages with a guide. Special interest safaris are available, focusing on birdlife, photography, family and private tours.

Cheetah Plains

Cheetah Plains comprises private luxury villas that each sleep up to eight guests. Ideal for families or groups, every villa has a shared living space with a pool deck and dining area, plus guest suites with en-suite bathrooms. Each has an outside boma, a fine wine gallery and a chef’s kitchen. 

Set in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, the villas are inspired by their surroundings. Enjoy a unique vantage point of an active waterhole or stay in a retreat named after the reserve’s famous leopards. A hospitality team is assigned to each villa, including a butler, a host, a culinary team and a spa therapist.

Join twice-daily game drives in its fleet of innovative electric safari vehicles. They produce zero carbon emissions and reduce noise pollution, giving you a more immersive safari experience. Spotting the Big Five is possible here, and it’s particularly popular for spectacular leopard sightings.

Kapama Karula

Kapama Karula is one of four luxury lodges within Kapama Private Game Reserve, close to the Greater Kruger National Park. The luxury retreat has just 12 secluded villas on the banks of the Klaserie River, with options for couples and families.  

It’s ideal for those wanting wellness as part of their safari holiday. The award-winning onsite spa has soul-soothing treatments like full body exfoliation and African rungu massages.

The lodge offers morning and afternoon game drives, as well as small-group guided bush walks. Private wildlife safaris can also be arranged for a more personalised bush experience.

Tintswalo Safari

Tintswalo Safari is tucked within a secluded corner of Manyeleti Game Reserve, which borders Kruger National Park, Sabi Sands and Timbavati Reserves.

The lodge has seven air-conditioned suites, each with an outdoor deck and plunge pool overlooking grasslands that elephants often pass through.  

As well as game drives and bush walks, you’re invited to take an active role in conservation and assist the team with projects including de-horning, collaring and ear notching rhinos to protect them from poachers.

The guides here are fantastic, and many of them come from native Shangaan communities who have unparalleled knowledge of the land.
