The Dry Season

November to April
These are the summer months in the garden route, offering sun and lovely weather, but also a fair few visitors – local and international alike. Southern Right whales can be seen in November, humpback whales can be seen in November through to January. Orcas can be spotted all year round, as can dolphins. February to April sees fewer crowds and is a lovely time to explore the quaint towns and stunning scenery the Garden Route has to offer.

The Green Season

May to October
These are the cooler months along the Garden Route, with the coldest months falling from June to August. Temperatures can be quite cold during this time, however, are milder in the shoulder months of May and September to October. Humpbacks can be seen from May to December and Southern Right whales can be seen from June to November, with the best months for whale watching generally falling between July to October.
