5 reasons to go on a Kenya safari in 2026
Luxury safaris in Kenya 2026-2027
The Maasai Mara provides the backdrop for colossal herds of wildebeest and zebra that surge across from the Serengeti in Tanzania, evading stealthy predators and braving raging rivers. There are numerous exciting ways to track the migration, whether on a classic game drive, from horseback, or high above in a hot air balloon. Alternatively, you can enjoy the plains of the Mara or its breathtaking private reserves in a luxury tented camp, immersing yourself in a true ‘Out of Africa’ experience while seeking out wildlife.
Kenya’s safari appeal extends beyond the Maasai Mara. The Great Rift Valley boasts beautiful lakes teeming with a tremendous array of birdlife, and Amboseli National Park is known for its famous big-tusker elephants and breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro across the border in Tanzania. The Laikipia Plateau boasts a myriad of safari activities from mountain biking and camel trekking, to conservation experiences and helicopter excursions. These reserves provide a stronghold for some of the country’s best game viewing outside of the Mara, with lion, leopard, wild dog, black and white rhino.
Kenya’s vibrant culture includes the world-famous Maasai and Samburu. From Kenya’s wildest reserves and remote mountain ranges to its stunning coastline and pristine beaches, the possibilities for a truly diverse adventure are endless.

Best time to visit Kenya 2026-2027
The Dry Season
June to October
Kenya offers two distinct dry seasons with June to October being the most popular. Game viewing throughout the country is exceptional throughout these months, with wildlife congregating around limited water sources and vegetation thinning throughout the season. Traditionally towards the end of July, the breathtaking herds of the Great Migration begin to cross the treacherous waters of the Mara River, before arriving into the Maasai Mara. August through to October offer the best chances of seeing the herds fill the plains of the Mara, and river crossings continue.
December to March
The rains begin to ease by December, with some lingering showers a possibility. Game viewing is excellent in the early part of the year with much of the country in bloom following the short rains. This is a spectacular time for scuba-diving and snorkelling with the waters of the Kenyan Coast at their clearest, visibility is excellent.
The Green Season
November
Moving into November, the herds of the Great Migration move south into the eastern stretches of the Serengeti in Tanzania as the short rains arrive in Kenya, with hot days and regular showers. A much quieter time of year, this can be an exceptional time for birding, while game viewing remains impressive in many reserves.
April & May
This is typically when Kenya receives its long rains. Regular downpours occur which can affect safari activities.
