Step off the plane and feel the warm breath of Africa against your skin – the soft hum of cicadas, the distant cry of a fish eagle overhead, and a horizon that unfurls into endless savannah and ancient river corridors. This is Zambia: a land that still feels incredibly pure and untouched, where remote wildness isn’t a backdrop – it’s the story. We’re here to weave luxury quietly into your untamed adventure.

Luxury safaris in Zambia

Across this vast, land-locked jewel of southern Africa, rivers like the mighty Zambezi wind through emerald forests and open plains, nurturing life at every turn. From the iconic thundering spray of Victoria Falls – ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ or ‘The Smoke That Thunders’ – to the whispering reeds of the Luangwa Valley, Zambia invites you into a world where nature conducts the rhythm of your days.

Because of its magnitude, you can experience completely different types of safari within Zambia. Paddle your way silently in a traditional canoe through channels on the Lower Zambezi, or step into a speedboat to navigate the bigger, permanent water channels where you’ll see elephants on the bank and swimming in the water. From a houseboat, you can watch the vivid rose-pink plumage of Carmine Bee Eaters foraging in large colonies on the sandy riverbanks, or spend time in South Luangwa – nowhere else on earth comes close to the leopard population here.

In Zambia, intimacy with the wild isn’t an aspiration – it’s a given. Walking safaris were born here, and encounters are guided by experts who read the land like a language, searching for ‘spoor’ – the tracks or scent of animals recently passing through. Zambia’s monumental landscapes set the stage for a more remote, more adventurous safari, where wilderness and wildlife ignite a lifetime of longing to return.

Choose to linger in rich, biodiverse landscapes that feel almost untouched by mankind. Across national parks like Kafue, the oldest and one of Africa’s largest, ecosystems unfold like a mosaic – from wetlands and woodlands to sweeping grasslands teeming with lechwe.

Whether you’re swapping stories over sundowners as Great White Pelicans wheel against a fiery sky, or tracing lion tracks through whispering bush, Zambia delivers moments that are deeply personal and profoundly timeless. It’s not just a safari – it’s a chance to slow down, to feel the pulse of the wild, and to reconnect with the kind of adventure that stays with you long after your journey ends. The dry season

May to November
The dry season months offer a great time to spot wildlife on safari; vegetation is low and wildlife congregate around limited water sources, the perfect conditions for game viewing. This is also an excellent time to visit Victoria Falls; the waters are at their highest in April and May with the best months being between June and August after the spray has reduced. The rains tend to break in the latter half of November.

The green season

December to April
With the rains falling regularly by December, the Green Season well and truly begins, with beautiful thick bush, a plethora of migratory bird species, and a highly private safari. The rains continue through January until April, with many of the camps closing during this time.

Zambia safari FAQs

Is Zambia a good safari destination?
Zambia is an excellent safari destination. It’s quieter and often more affordable than popular places like Botswana and Kenya. It also has an abundance of wildlife across its diverse national parks. All of the Big Five are present here, and you have the best chance of seeing them in North Luangwa National Park. South Luangwa is home to one of the highest populations of wild leopards in Africa, and it’s the birthplace of the walking safari. Plus, with the mighty Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River, Zambia offers a thrilling and well-rounded safari experience you’ll never forget.
What is the best safari in Zambia?
There are 20 national parks in Zambia, but South Luangwa is one of our favourites. It’s an untouched wilderness teeming with life and home to a high density of leopards. The remote North Luangwa has the best chance of spotting all the Big Five, including elusive black rhinos. Kafue National Park is Zambia’s oldest and largest. Its diverse landscape is bisected by the Kafue River and its tributaries, where you’ll find hippos, crocodiles and elephants. Lower Zambezi has the best of both if you’re looking for exceptional wildlife viewings paired with the dramatic Victoria Falls.
What is the best month to visit Zambia?
June to November is considered the best time to visit Zambia, as it’s the dry season. There is a higher chance of seeing more wildlife, as animals tend to congregate around limited water sources. August is the best month for a safari with a trip to Victoria Falls. Temperatures begin to increase, but remain cool enough for walking safaris, while the falls still have an impressive flow with less spray. From mid-August to mid-January, it’s safe enough to swim in the Devil’s Pool at the edge. If you’d like to do boat safaris on the Lower Zambezi, we recommend visiting from April to November when the water levels are ideal.
