Sharing boundaries with Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi, Lake Malawi is one of Africa’s Great Lakes and extends along the tail end of the Great Rift Valley. Boasting crystal clear waters as far as the eye can see and sandy beaches, Lake Malawi’s resorts are as unique and lovely as the tropical fish you will find beneath her depths.

An excellent addition to a one-of-a-kind safari, Lake Malawi is the beach holiday. Lake Malawi offers a range of lodges, with the areas around Likoma Island and Monkey Bay – in the southern edge and others scattered up its coast and along the Mozambican side.

Each offers a fantastic base from which to go kayaking, swimming and snorkelling in selected areas to seek out the colourful cichlid fish, horseriding along the beach or just lounging about in a hammock listening to the sound of Malawi’s National bird – the fish eagle.

There are also plenty of cultural delights worth visiting in the area, including the impressive St Peter’s Cathedral on the larger island, Likoma. The other islands offer an insight into Malawian life with a gorgeous backdrop.

The Dry Season

April to October
This is the dry season in Malawi, with milder temperatures and little rain. It can get a little chilly in June and July in the mornings, but otherwise, this is a great time to relax on the lake’s beaches. Temperatures start to climb in the build-up to the rains in August and it can get quite hot by October.

The Green Season

November to March
This is the rainy or ‘green’ season in Malawi. Temperatures can get quite hot during this time, with plenty of rain and birdlife. The shoulder months of November and March can be nice, however, do check with us before you look at travelling during this time.
