One of the world’s most sparsely populated countries, Namibia’s culture is influenced by a diverse blend of ethnic groups, including the Himba, Herero, San Bushmen and Ovambo Peoples. Echoes of German colonisation exist in its cuisine and architecture, while the German language is widely spoken. In the Kunene Region, UNESCO-listed Twyfelfontein has over 2,000 rock engravings created by ancient hunter-gatherers.
Namibia has an impressive variety of private reserves and parks, including the renowned Etosha National Park and the Namib-Naukluft National Park. They’re home to desert-adapted species of elephant and lion, as well as gemsbok and hyena. It also has the world’s largest free-roaming population of black rhino and cheetah, thanks to its conservation efforts.

Best time to visit Namibia
The dry season 2026-2027
April to October
Many parts of Namibia can be visited all year round, though temperatures do rise outside of the dry season, with May to October being the most comfortable. This coincides with excellent game viewing in Etosha as wildlife gathers around limited water sources.
The green season 2026-2027
November to March
Temperatures peak in November through to March and showers are possible in some areas. Rains in Etosha National Park cause wildlife to disperse, making game viewing less productive.
