Malawi may not come to mind when one thinks of a big game safari, scuba diving and beaches – however, this small but vibrant country has all of this, paired with a relaxed atmosphere. Malawi is an exceptional choice for intrepid travellers looking for a unique ‘off the beaten track’ experience.

Seek out the Big 5 in Majete National Park, as well as other exciting species including cheetah, sable and eland. Lake Malawi offers a beach escape with cerulean waters housing a bounty of tropical fish known as cichlids, making for excellent canoeing, fishing, diving and snorkelling. Mighty highlands and mountains cut away from the tail end of the Great Rift Valley, while pristine national parks are tucked away in woodlands or along the Shire River.

A safari to Malawi offers the chance of seclusion. As a relatively hidden gem of the region, its wilderness and beauty are still pristine and early explorers would likely not see much of a difference between today and when they first stepped foot on the African continent many years ago. Whether you’re a well-seasoned traveller, or simply after a unique escape, Malawi might just be the perfect choice.

In each wild corner of this pristine country is a selection of authentic and thoughtfully crafted safari camps and lodges.

The Dry Season

April to October
The dry season months offer a great time to spot wildlife on safari; vegetation is low and wildlife congregate around limited water sources, the perfect conditions for game viewing. Temperatures start to climb in August through to October, making this a great time to enjoy the plethora of activities and relax on the shores of Lake Malawi.

The Green Season

November to March
The Green season begins as the rains break in November, continuing through until March. While this may not be the best time to visit Lake Malawi, Malawi’s game parks are thriving at this time with excellent birding, lush green vegetation, and a variety of species are birthing their young.
